FINGERS CROSSED

fingers crossed

So much hangs on them.
Hopes and dreams
rings and French tips.
Some fingers wear gems
Others wear gold
And others settle for varnish.
Some fingers move fast.
Others are lethargic
And others ponder and tap
at windowsills, searching for answers.
Fingers write
Fingers caress.
Fingers braid hair.
They do it all.
But, they don’t tell much.
Their biggest secret of all:
Fingers crossed
don’t ever get much done.
There is a bigger muscle
that does the work for them.
Crossed fingers are mere messengers,
conveying hopes and dreams to the heart.
So fingers crossed
that you, sweet reader, follow your heart.
